School Studio Classes and Gallery Visits
Studio Classes for Schools
Studio classes are $100 per group (15 to 25 students).
Tuesday through Friday (museum galleries are closed on Monday).
Studio classes are one and one-half hours in length; Kindergarten studio classes are one hour. Mornings 10:00-11:30 am; afternoon studios are 12:30-2:00pm.
Studio classes will spend 20 to 30 minutes in the collection to make connections with the hands-on project to be done in the remaining time.
Studio/gallery visits are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are conducted by staff of the department of education and public programs.
If possible, please leave coats and other personal property on your bus, as the museum will not be responsible for lost or stolen items. Backpacks, radios, and cameras with flash are not permitted in the museum galleries.
If you are arranging a school tour or studio/gallery visit for the first time please be prepared to provide the following information: full name of school, school address, school district's full name, county, your name, any other contact person's name, and school phone numbers.
2008 School Studios
Castles and Knights, the Middle Ages: K-12. Good knight! Students will lean facts about medieval armor and then create wearable examples out of heavy paper.
Animals in Art: Pre-K--12. An introduction to various animals, both real and imaginary, in the CMA collection. Students will then create their version of an animal they have observed.
Line, Shape, and Color: Pre-K--12. this class introduces the basic elements of art especially in modern and contemporary art using posters only. Students will then use these concepts to create their own version.
Landscapes: Pre-K--12. Travel to different places and seasons by looking at landscape paintings from various places. Students will create a landscape of their own in paint, pastels, colored pencil on paper. Gallery visit.
Let’s Face It: 1-12. Meet the men, women, and children portrayed in the CMA collections. Students will then crate a portrait of their own. Gallery visit.
Renaissance and Baroque Art: 4-12. Explore European arts and cultures from the 15th to 17th centuries. Students will then make a project based upon what they have seen. Work from poster, reproduction, and galleries when possible. Some gallery and posters.
Impressionism and Post-Impressionism: Pre-K—12. Meet Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters and their work, Monet, Gauguin, van Gogh, Cezanne or others. Students will use their new knowledge to create a work of art themselves. Work from posters and reproductions, gallery not open yet.
