Asian Odyssey
Asian Odyssey advances the study of Asian Art and culture in K-12 curriculum by creating a model curriculum and program that is accessible to a national and international audiences via distance learning and the museum's web site.
The project combines the best practices in teaching Asia in school curricula (K-12) to be uniquely centered on CMA's comprehensive collection of Asian Art. The uniqueness of this curriculum is that it is museum-centric and makes a rich, arts-based curriculum available to teachers and students who do not have a museum with an Asian collection in their communities.
Over three years, this program, through the implementation of a national model, has the potential of reaching countless thousands of students, in addition to direct impact on 150-200 students from the immediate districts in the consortium school districts. It will better prepare students for future careers and life in a complex world in which the Pacific-Rim countries will play an increasing role.
The Cleveland Museum of Art's Asian Odyssey Program is made possible through a generous grant from The Freeman Foundation's Asian Art/Educational Outreach Funding Initiative.
