Constructed of native sandstone, this Romanesque Revival structure was designed by renowned architects Charles Heard and Simeon Porter and dedicated on August 12, 1855. Following a second devastating fire, the church was restored in 1884 by Charles Schweinfurth. He changed the interior layout and created an imposing barrel-vaulted ceiling supported by two false clerestories. The sanctuary features four Louis C. Tiffany stained glass windows and a magnificent John La Farge triple window overlooking Public Square.
