Joan Busquets
Settee, 1899

Busquets was one of the leading Catalan designers of modernista furniture.

This settee is part of a suite featuring exuberant, asymmetrical forms that seem to sprout and grow like natural vegetation. The floral motif, sinuous lines, and organic shapes have parallels in French Art Nouveau. The sunflower motif is one of the most characteristic of the Busquets' workshop and is found repeatedly in many of his furniture creations.
