The Cleveland Museum of Art is home to one of the world's great art collections. The museum is currently undergoing extensive renovation and expansion and, during this time, parts of the collection have toured the world, from China to Germany, Korea to Canada. The Cleveland Museum of Art is pleased to partner with the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage to present a selection of masterworks from the museum's renowned collection of European paintings. This exhibition celebrates collaboration between Cleveland's oldest and newest art museums. The works on display range in date from the early Renaissance to the mid 19th century. The paintings explore challenges to faith; meditations on human suffering; and astonishing stories of devotion and betrayal. Through an exploration of these works, visitors will experience a range of emotions: the joys of family life; the complications of romantic love; and human powerlessness against the forces of nature. Magnificent in execution these paintings represent a mere sampling of treasures from one of the world's premiere art museums the Cleveland Museum of Art. |
