Temple Model (about 510-450 BC)

Dated to the first half of the 5th century BC, this model temple was part of a large deposit of votive dedications excavated at Medma. It represents certain structural features of Greek temple architecture, such as the well-preserved roof which clearly shows a system of barrel-shaped and flat roof tiles. A sculptural ornament was once mounted at the highest point of the roof at the front of the temple (acroterion). It perhaps depicted the Gorgon Medusa (see cat. nos. 7 and 62).
