“My eyes being weak, I could not see the lines of a models body, so I decided never to use models. Beauty is enshrined in my heart. That is what I draw. I had no teacher and did not have the means to purchase adequate supplies. But I wanted to discover a style of painting based on compositional design. I had to capture that which was most important to paintings created in Japan, that which was Japanese, the soul and tenacity in Japan, that which is life itself. Otherwise, it would not be my doing.. My youthful high spirits burned in me, and I taught I would beat myself and keep beating myself until I found my place. “
