Workmaster: Mikhail Perkhin (1860-1903)
St. Petersburg, 1896-1903
Gold, enamel, diamonds, pearls
The Forbes Magazine Collection, New York
The second largest Fabergé egg known, this egg recalls "singing bird" snuffboxes popular in Switzerland in the early 19th century. A rooster emerges from under the grille at the top, bobbing its head, flapping its wings, and crowing the hour. A similar Fabergé creation in pink enamel is also recorded. It is not certain which of the two was actually made for the imperial
family and which for another wealthy client.
