Easter Egg
Cat. no. 98
St. Petersburg, about 1885-95
Lapis lazuli, gold, enamel, pearls, diamonds, rubies
The Cleveland Museum of Art, The India Early Minshall Collection
The hinged enameled "yolk" conceals a royal crown, which is itself hinged, and opens to reveal a ruby egg. Although not documented among the imperial eggs, this one was probably made for a member of the family.
