Giunta di Tugio was the most important maiolica ceramist of his time in Florence. Di Tugio was trained in his father's workshop, which he took over following his father's death around 1419, managing it for the next thirty years. According to documents, by 1417 di Tugio was a member of the council of oliandoli, or oil merchants.
