The Cleveland Museum of Art

Gifts of Art and Other Personal Property

Gifts of art are an important part of our collection. Past gifts from individuals have ranged from a single painting to large collections. If you are considering a donation of art to the museum, whether during your lifetime or through a bequest, please call the Office of Planned Giving and we will arrange for a curator to meet with you. While we can assist you with this process, it is at the discretion of the curator and Acquisitions Committee to determine whether a gift of art meets the Museum’s needs.

Personal and real property, such as antiques, jewelry, rare books, other collections, and in certain circumstances, real estate, can be donated to the Museum. If the property is of direct and immediate use in fulfilling the Museum’s mission, you may receive a charitable deduction for its fair market value. In the event that personal property not related to the mission is accepted, the donor’s deduction is limited to the cost basis of the item or object.
