Public Transit
By Rapid Transit Train from Cleveland Hopkins Airport or Tower City Center in Downtown Cleveland
The museum is located in University Circle, which is served by the
Regional Transit Authority (RTA) Red Line. The Red Line goes from the airport through downtown Cleveland and University Circle. The RTA Green and Blue lines serve the downtown waterfront attractions and extend through the eastern suburb of Shaker Heights. All the lines intersect underground at Tower City Center; ask for a transfer as you exit in order to switch lines. The "Rapid" fare is $1.75. An all-day pass is $4.00. There are discounts for seniors, disabled, and children.
To get to the museum from downtown or the airport, take the RTA Red Line toward Windermere to the University Circle stop (about 15 minutes from Tower City). There is a small sign in the station pointing toward the hospitals and museums. When you step off the train, walk to your right. A free Circlelink shuttle bus serves the Art Museum and major destinations in University Circle. Circlelink service runs every fifteen minutes from 6:15 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday and noon to 5:30 pm on Sunday.
Walking map
By Bus The #6, #6a (local, $1.25), and #9 (express, $1.50) busses run along Euclid Avenue between downtown and University Circle. Use the Stokes Blvd. stop or the Adelbert Road/Severance Hall stop (the 6a makes a detour to the University Circle Rapid stop after Stokes). The museum is clearly visible north of Euclid Avenue between Stokes and Adelbert; the walk from either stop to the museum is 5 to 7 minutes. The #48 bus connects University Circle and the Cleveland Clinic to Shaker Square and Marymount Hospital, eventually intersecting all three rapid transit lines along its epic route.
Special Instructions for Bus Drivers
Bus drivers should note that there are a number of arched stone bridges in Rockefeller Park and tall vehicles should therefore stay toward the center of MLK Boulevard if arriving by that route. Busses arriving by this route also may have difficulty negotiating the sharp turn onto Jeptha Drive. There are two alternatives: proceed past Jeptha, cross Chester Avenue, turn left onto Euclid Avenue, and turn left again onto East Boulevard in order to approach the museum from the other side; or, at the 105th Street traffic circle, instead of staying on MLK Boulevard, go a half-turn counterclockwise around the circle and then bear right uphill onto East Boulevard, then turn right at the first intersection, Wade Oval. Bus unloading is at the museum's main (north) entrance, which faces Wade Oval.
